I’m Christopher M. Austin. I tell stories with my art. They are a meld of the ephemeral, the abstract and the narrative. I focus on those moments that move me on a deeply emotional level. These often are those when a single choice can completely shift the narrative. I draw from personal narrative; both my own and others.
I collect these stories the way others might collect objects. I have a fondness for the quirky surreal moments that can make life seem more magical. I want to share these with others in hopes I might convey my peculiar perspective. Some might seem odd or tragic but I believe that even in these there is beauty if we can only bring ourselves to look. To quote a favorite song “Life is beautiful, and terrible, and strange. ”
A native of North Carolina, I’m a graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro, NC where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art History and Design. Prior to discovering the satisfaction I derive from creation I pursued a psychology major. Even with my change of focus I still find myself incorporating methods and concepts I learned. I’ve been active in the Triad, North Carolina art community, exhibiting work in local galleries.
